GIS Data for Maui, Molokai, Lanai and Kahoolawe

The GIS Division of County of Maui Department of Management is providing GIS data for the islands of Maui, Molokai, Lanai and Kahoolawe for download. These data sets are in the public domain and are provided free and without warranty. As some of these data sets may be updated periodically, we suggest that the data not be redistributed, but feel free to pass along the URL for this website to other GIS users.

Description of the Data and File Formats

The data sets listed below are in ArcView shapefile format and requires GIS software. Various GIS software vendors provide free GIS viewers for download (such as ESRI ArcExplorer) and evaluation copies of their software. The downloads are "zipped" for faster download times, so you will need a utility (such as WinZip, CuteZip or PKunzip) to extract the shapefiles.

GIS data are tied to geographic coordinates based on specific map projections and datums. All data used and distributed by Maui County GIS are in the following coordinate system:

Projection:	State Plane, Hawaii Zone 2 (Maui)
Datum:	North American Datum 1983 (NAD83)
Map Units:	Meters

Year 2000 Census Population by Block	(Added 9/22/02) - This data set was created by the U.S. Census Bureau for the year 2000 census and reprojected to State Plane (zone 2) by Maui County GIS.
GIS Roads (with Road Names)	(Check back later) - This data set is based on data created in cooperation with the Maui Police Department. A newer data set is available and will be uploaded shortly. In the interim, please e-mail us if you need this data set. Please note: This data is not intended to replace the official County roads data being maintained by the Engineering Division of the Maui County Department of Public Works and Waste Management.
Maui County Coast	(Added 9/30/02) - This data set is based on GIS coastline data from the State Office of Planning's GIS website. A good data set to show the islands of Maui, Molokai, Lanai and Kahoolawe. Obviously, this data set is not a substitute for a shoreline survey.
Census Tract Numbers by TMK and Address	(Added 9/30/02) - This is not a GIS data set. This is a table in DBASE (dbf) format that represents a cross-referencing of TMK numbers, parcel addresses and Census tract numbers. Should be usable in Microsoft Access or other database programs. Where the Census tract number was not easily discernible (e.g., where a parcel covers more than one Census tract), the tract number should be verified with the Maui County Planning Department.
Census 2000 Zip Codes	(Added 10/02/02) - This is an unedited GIS data set from the Census Bureau. It appears to have a error with the Lanai City zip code.
